Music is what moves the soul into rhythm. Every year after the geeks have fled Austin, TX to recover from five days of SXSW Interactive madness, the streets of this cozy creative town are flooded by the musical soundings of thousands of rockstars from all over the world. The music portion of the South by Southwest festival is coveted by music industry folks, up and coming bands and music nerds. Every available venue, from parking lots, art galleries and even small storefronts are turned into rock n’ roll havens. Static Photography photographer Kris Krüg had the chance to hang out with guys from Jones Soda as they traveled in their Jones RV from party to party. What a wild ride!
Jones Soda was sponsoring four parties during the music portion of SXSW. They were stationed in the parking lot of Waterloo Records for three days during their music showcases and one day at the downtown location of Mohawk’s for the AV Club/Onion Party . Each day was full of music and there were special surprise rockstars at every turn. Kris had the chance to shoot awesome live performance shots as well as intimate band portraits off the stage. Party-goers were drinking speciality Jones Soda cocktails in the sun and dancing the day (and sometimes night!) away. This SXSW was a particularly rocking’ one with a lot of thanks to the crew at Jones Soda.
Check out some of the highlights from SXSW Music with Jones Soda:
Guitar hero Jack White stopped by Waterloo Records for a quick appearance during The Greenhornes set at Waterloo Records.
Classic jazz musician Ben Jaffe stopped by the Jones RV to revel in stories of handing out Jones Soda in New Orleans almost eight years ago.
New Zealand’s cuties The Naked and Famous rocked the Waterloo stage in the early opening slot during the week. Their rock n’ roll stylings got the crowd moving.
The Jones Soda was onsite at Waterloo Records for three of their four days of music shows. The RV was a respite of shade and power for Kris Krüg when he wasn’t up front and center shooting the musicians.
Members from the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians were onsite collecting donations for their awesome organization. This alliance provides free healthcare to Austin-based musicians.
Mohawk’s had twice the amount of music with an indoor and outdoor stage setup. These mythical musicians of Tristen kept the crowd grooving despite how hot it was inside.
Lucas Silveira from The Cliks stopped by for a quick photoshoot in Mohwak’s awesome artist green room. He was in Austin while on tour with Toronto rockers Hunter Valentine.
Riot grrl rockers Wildflag are a force to be reckoned with! Half of Sleater-Kinney and half of Helium , this star-studded band brought down the house at Waterloo Records. It didn’t hurt that Carrie Brownstein is a total rockstar.
During a break between bands some of the Jones Soda crew threw out some free Jones Soda t-shirts to eager audience members.
Ohio rockers The Greenhornes are no strangers to the stage. With over a decade under their belts they took the Waterloo Records stage by storm. Jack White even stopped by to watch their show as few of the Greenhornes were also in White’s side project The Raconteurs.
On the way home for the day a few unsuspecting local Austin BMX riders got a chance to hang out with the Jones Soda RV and try out some of their yummy beverages.
Small Sins definitely know how to have a good time while on the road. This four piece band killed the stage at Mohawk’s with their fun stage antics and awesome music.
LA soul stars Fitz and the Tantrums know how to get the crowd moving. This seven-piece band is a crowd-pleaser with songs that are infused with classic blues and soul.
The Jones Soda crew had a perfect setup at Mohawk’s during their AV Club Party. There were even special Jones Soda cocktails made for the party.
Everyone loves music! Even the cute and furry ones.
The boys from the Kentucky band Morning Teleportation brought their perfect mixture of southern country rock to the early hours of the Waterloo Records stage. Despite some technical difficulties they rocked the house.
The best thing about the music portion of SXSW is the amount of kids and families that come out for all the free shows. These two darlings were dancing the entire day away. Cuties!
The sounds of music were such a welcome change from the craziness of SXSW Interactive this year… Thanks Jones Soda!
